TRANSFORMATION ON THE ISLAND!
OUTDOOR BAR, DECK, AND RAILINGS
Well, it was not in our plans to complete the bar downstairs at this time. But it seemed too perfect just to let these guys include it in their time frame. I am glad we did because it is done and ready to paint along with the rest of the house. No worries of coming back later and matching up the paint color. All we need to do now is complete the inside at a later time. And rest assured that will be a fun weekend for us, because it will entail setting up a kitchen for cooking. And you know what that means. We will need people to help eat what we cook when it is ready to roll! LOL! Looking forward to it!
In regards to the railing, we initially planned to simply add extra pickets to make the gaps between them smaller for safety reasons. However, the more we analyzed the situation, the more we realized that the whole railing was completely unstable. If someone would have leaned on it just right, they could have gone over the side. So, we decided to replace the whole thing and add 4x4 boards systematically on the corners and in between as well as lessen the space between the pickets. We are so happy with the results for several reasons:
1. It is so much more sturdy and safe.
2. It actually played a major part in adding more stability to the boathouse in regards to the sway effects. We know our grandson will be running and playing on this deck and our puppies are small enough to squeeze through some of those pickets. Now we feel much better about the safety factor for these loved ones. And for these two reasons alone, it was worth the extra expense. And the crew did an awesome job on it! We were very pleased!
I believe we are ready to paint this baby! Yea! I love it when the color gets added. It is pretty much the last step to the finishing stages. So they are about to Color Our World! Oh that just dated me! LOL!
